Madurai Bench admits actress Kushboo's petition
Wednesday, November 16 2005 19:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Madurai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today (Nov 16,2005) admitted a petition filed by actress Kushboo, seeking to quash the case filed against her for her 'observations on pre-marital sex' at a Magistrate Court at Sankarankovil.

Admitting the petition, Justice M.Chockalingam issued notice to the complainant and posted the case for hearing tomorrow (Nov 17, 2005).

Kushboo also urged the court to dispense with her presence, pending disposal of the petition. She said as a number of cases had been filed against her in various places in Tamil Nadu, she 'may not be able to attend every hearing.'

She also requested the court to stay all further proceedings in the case at Sankarankoil, pending disposal of the present petition. The case had been posted for hearing on November 21 at the Sankarankoil court.

She submitted that the India Today Magazine conducted a survey on the subject of pre-marital sex and she had only offered her opinion on the subject.

The Petitioner had no intention to insult or cause injury to the feelings of any sect of any specified community or to defame tradition, culture and customs in particular.

However, a news item in this regard that was published by a Tamil daily was misleading and provocative, she said, adding she had sent a legal notice to it.
