Wednesday, November 16 2005 15:11 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mumbai: Bollywood starlet Monica Bedi acted as interpreter for extradited gangster Abu Salem when the couple was on the run from one country to another before they were arrested in Portugal in 2002, CBI sources said.

"Although Salem learnt Portuguese during his stay there and can communicate fairly well in the language, he is some how not much conversant in English," a CBI source told sources here yesterday (Nov 15, 2005).

Salem, who dropped out of school in ninth standard, is well conversant in other languages namely Hindi and Avadhi, and can understand English, CBI sources said.
