Telugu Desam Party makes organizational changes Wednesday, November 16 2005 18:24 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Hyderabad:
The main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today (Nov 16, 2005)unveiled organizational changes by constituting district-level coordination committees, increasing the strength of the state executive and reconstituting the frontal organizations but ignored demands for revamping the Politburo, the party's decision-making body.
Contrary to earlier expectations of a total revamp of the state executive, the party supremo and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu chose to tread a cautious path and made no changes in the 17-member Politburo while increasing the number of official spokespersons from seven to nine.
"There is no need to change the entire body. What we have attempted is a blend of experience and new blood. We have given increased representation to weaker sections including Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes," Naidu told reporters here.
Asked about criticism within the party against senior Politburo members, the TDP Chief said each party functionary would henceforth be made accountable and his performance
would be reviewed periodically.
The total strength of the party's state executive stands at 123 including 8 vice-presidents, 6 general secretaries and 42 secretaries.
Naidu announced new office-bearers for 11 frontal organizations of the party. The former Minister T Srinivas Yadav will be the president of 'Telugu Yuvatha', the party's youth wing while Rajya Sabha member V Geetha will head the party's women's wing.
