WB govt has to take a clear stand on strike: CII
Wednesday, November 16 2005 16:53 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: With Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee strongly advocating banning of strikes in the nascent IT sector, CII has said the Left Front government in West Bengal has to take a clear stand on strike, even if it was called by the ruling party or its trade union wing.

''There should be unanimity among the government and the party. The government should take a clear stand on strike', Ravi Poddar, chairman of CII, Eastern region, told reporters here when asked whether the LF government indirectly facilitated strikes when they were called by the ruling party or its trade union wing.

"Strikes in the state, if repeated, would send wrong signals to potential investors - both domestic and foreign despite the government's statement that they are for growth", he said adding from the side of the industry CII has taken up the issue with the government.

To another query, Poddar said strikes in the nascent IT sector, especially in BPOs, call centres, would have tremendous adverse impact.
