Mahinda Rajapakse sworn in as Sri Lanka's President
Saturday, November 19 2005 16:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Colombo: Mahinda Rajapakse, who has promised to re-examine a truce with Tamil Tiger rebels, was sworn in today (Nov 19, 2005) new President.

Rajapakse took his oath before Chief Justice Sarath N Silva at a ceremony at the President's house.

Rajapakse won a tightly contested election on Thursday, narrowly defeating his main challenger, Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a vote marred by a rebel boycott that prevented thousands of ethnic Tamils from casting ballots.
