Three Pakistan-trained Babbar Khalsa terrorists, who planned to kill a former Union Minister allegedly involved in 1984 anti-Sikh riots, were arrested in Jagroan district of Punjab yesterday (Nov 20, 2005).
Over two kgs of RDX and a large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested ultras identified as Bhagwant Singh, Chamkaur Singh and Manpreet Singh, SSP (Jagroan) R K Jaiswal told reporters.
The three hardcore terrorists told their interrogators that they had almost finalised a plan to kill a senior Congress leader and a former Union Minister allegedly involved in the '84 riots, the SSP said.
They said they had a week-long training in Lahore in Pakistan in May this year.
Their trainer was Wadhawa Singh, Babbar Khalsa International chief and the most wanted terrorist in Punjab, the SSP said.
Wadhawa was in regular touch with them and had supplied arms and ammunition to them to revive terrorism in the state, he said.
Police recovered one-kg white RDX, 930 gms of black RDX, 56 cartridges, 28 detonators, a pencil bomb and a timer from them.
During preliminary investigations, they revealed that arms were supplied to them through the International Border in Rajasthan.
They were operating through codes only, they said.
