'Third Front responsible for divide in secular vote'
Tuesday, November 22 2005 16:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Admitting that people voted for a change in political leadership in Bihar, Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI)(M) today (Nov 22, 2005) held the Third Front led by Ramvilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) responsible for the poor showing of 'secular' forces in the Assembly elections.

Spotlight: Bihar Elections

"Yes, the division in the secular vote had benefited the communal forces," CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters as the poll results trickled in indicating a mandate in favour of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"The people in Bihar have chosen for a change in political leadership the results clearly point to that," he said maintaining, however, that the outcome would have no repercussions on the Central Government.

Nonetheless, there was bound to be some discussion within the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) as alliance partners were pitted against each other, he said adding that the party would do a detail analysis of the election once all the results were out.
