With a view to provide upgraded amenities, 327 stations across the country have been selected as model stations, Rajya Sabha was informed today (Nov 25, 2005).
Out of these 327 stations selected so far, 101 stations have already been developed as model stations with upgraded amenities, Minister of state for Railways R Velu said in a
written reply.
However, he said upgradation of amenities was a continuous process, and, therefore, no target could be fixed in this regard.
To another question on suitability of the existing tracks for super-fast trains, he said they were not but made it clear that the permitted speed depends on route classification, rolling stock, signaling and interlocking system, track structure etc.
The sections are kept free from speed restriction unless it is required for maintenance, renewals or some urgent unforeseen circumstances to ensure safety of traffic, he said.
