The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislature party today (Nov 25, 2005) elected former chief minister Rabri Devi as its leader setting the stage for her appointment as the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly.
She was elected to head the RJD legislature party at a meeting of the newly elected RJD mlas and its members in the legislative council, state party president Abdul Bari Siddiqui told reporters.
Stating that almost all legislators were present during the election, he said RJD members of the bicameral legislature had a meeting at Rabri's residence where former minister
Jagadanand Singh moved the proposal for her election, which was accepted unanimously.
Rabri Devi has been authorized to nominate the office bearers of RJD legislative groups in the two houses of legislature, Siddiqui added.
RJD has 54 mlas in the newly elected 243-member assembly.
