New Delhi: Rajya Sabha today (Nov 25, 2005) condemned the killing of the Border Road Organsiation employee Maniyappan Raman Kutty in Afghanistan, describing it as a barbaric act.

Expressing shock and grief over Kutty's killing, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat expressed the hope that the guilty would soon be brought to book.

"This House strongly condemns this cruel and barbaric act and hopes that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be brought to justice at the earliest", Shekhwat said.

Kutty, who was working on the important Zaranj-Delaram Road Project under the aegis of India-Afghan Friendship Project, was killed on November 23, the Chairman said.

36-year old Kutty was abducted with three Afghan co-workers from the Nimroz province in Afghanistan on November 19. His body was found by the roadside in Delaram District on November 23 after expiry of a 48-hour deadline set by his Taliban abductors for BRO to pull out of the country.

The House expressed its condolences to the bereaved family members of Kutty.
