Volcker issue rocks RS, House adjourned till noon Friday, November 25 2005 11:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Rajya Sabha was adjourned for an hour today (Nov 25, 2005) as an unrelenting Opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) demanded resignation of Natwar Singh from the Cabinet over the Volcker Committee report, which has named him and the Congress party as beneficiaries of Iraqi oil pay-offs.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Sushma Swaraj said even though Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had taken away the External Affairs portfolio from Natwar Singh, he should also be dropped from the Cabinet.
BJP member S.S. Ahluwalia demanded suspension of Question Hour to take up discussion on the report immediately.
Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, after condoling the death of BRO driver, Maniyappan Raman Kutty, who was abducted and killed by Taliban in Afghanistan, ordered the taking up of Questions.
"At least let me take up one or two questions", Shekhawat said.
However, sensing the mood of the Opposition, he adjourned the House till noon.
