Need for politicians to be disciplined: Amjad Khan Sunday, November 27 2005 15:14 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Impressing upon the need for discipline in all fields, Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan today (Nov 27, 2005) said it was needed the most in politicians as they are people's representatives.
"Without dedication and discipline, you can't achieve anything. This applies to not just music but all walks of life," Khan said. "Even politics and politicians need to be discilpined, after all, they are people's representatives.
They have so much of responsibility on their shoulders and are accountable to the public," he told reporters at a function to felicitate him here last night.
In a no-holds-barred interaction with the media he suggested a "censorship" on some of the television channels, especially, religious ones.
"Whichever channel is bad-viewing for children or even adults, should be censored. With due respects to all religions, there should be a censorship on some of these religious channels that give a wrong message to the society," he said.
As India was a "religion-sensitive" nation, there should be a check on how much one can talk and which subject to talk about in a religious channel, the Sarod maestro said.
The man who has "never ever finished reading any book" feels he's more comfortable with the "Swaron ki duniya (the world of music) than "shabdon ki duniya" (the world of words).
Khan is the subject of the five-day music festival being organised in the capital to celebrate his contribution to the world of music.
