Centre bound to take care of requirements: Jaya
Sunday, November 27 2005 14:02 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Tiruchirappalli: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today (Nov 27,2005) said that it was the 'bounden duty of the Central Government to take care of the requirements of the entire country, and Tamil Nadu, being part of the country, should also be taken care of'.

The Chief Minister, who went around the flood-affected areas in the district, told the affected people that because of the total destruction of the state's infrastructures, including roads, in the rains and floods, the Government was unable to even make a proper assessment of the damages.

"We have to wait till the flood waters receded to prepare the estimate and the Rs 3,000 crore we sought from the Centre is only an advance," she said.

She also demanded the Centre to send one more team to assess the damages caused by the third spell of floods.

Stating that the state had even exhausted the Calamity Contingency funds due to relief works undertaken after the tsunami, she said 'We have no financial resources now."

"After the first spell of floods, we prepared an estimate and submitted it to the Union government. Soon the second spell of floods caused widespread destruction. Now the Third spell of destruction floods struck the state," she said.
