Hartal in Thalassery following BJP activist's death
Monday, November 28 2005 12:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kannur: Shops and business houses in Thalassery remained closed today (Nov 28, 2005) in response to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) call for a day long hartal, following the death of a party activist in an attack, reportedly by Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) workers at Moozhikkara near thalassery last month, police said.

However, transport services were not affected, they said.

The BJP activist Edacholi Preman (27) was attacked by CPI(M) workers on Oct 13 and sustained multiple stab wounds, suffered injuries in his both hands and left leg and was shifted to a Kozhikode hospital, where he succumbed late last night.

Seven CPI-M activists had surrendered before a court in connection with the attack while another accused committed suicide on November 11, they said.
