The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) hearing the bail application of Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury in judicial custody in a twin murder case has received a threat letter from the Communist Party of India (CPI) (Maoist), a senior police official said today(Nov 28,2005).
Superintendent of Police Niraj Kumar Singh said the personal staff of the CJM Ashok Kumar Pal found a CPI (Maoist) letter in the court table 'which directed the CJM to give bail to Chowdhury otherwise he and his family would be eliminated.'
The SP said the security of the court and the CJM and his family have been beefed up following the letter.
The CJM is today hearing the bail application of Chowdhury, local Congress MP and president of Murshidabad District Congress Committee who was arrested by police from
New Delhi in a twin murder case.
Chowdhury was remanded to judicial custody by the CJM when he was produced before him on November 2O.
