No confidence motion against Gogoi Govt in Assam Monday, November 28 2005 17:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Guwahati:
A no confidence motion against the Tarun Gogoi-led Assam Government was raised in the assembly today (Nov 28,2005) by the opposition AGP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bodo MLAs together and the breakaway AGP (P) separately.
They were protesting against the alleged breakdown of law and order, the nearly month-long ethnic violence in Karbi Anglong district, failure to hold the 33rd National Games on time and price rise.
Speaker Prithvi Majhi disallowed Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) member and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta from raising the motion as his party did not have the requisite one-tenth strength of the House for raising issues.
Majhi, however, admitted the other no-confidence motion and said the date for its taking up would be informed later.
The speaker also disallowed an adjournment motion raised by Pabindra Deka (independent) as his issues were the same as the no confidence motion ones and they would be taken later.
