Make Volcker papers public, register FIR with CBI Monday, November 28 2005 17:28 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
The Janata Party today (Nov 28, 2005) demanded that all documents relating to the Volcker committee report, particularly those connected with Indian beneficiaries in the oil-for-food scam, be made public.
"There are more than 1000 pages of documents available, including a note written by the then Iraqi President Saddam Hussain for allotment of oil. They should be tabled in the Lok Sabha," Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy told reporters here.
Swamy said his party endorsed the views expressed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this connection.
He also demanded that an FIR be registered with the CBI regarding the scam. The receipt of money as commission was an offence under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act and the beneficiaries should be tried under sections of this act also, he said.
Swamy said he would be going to the United Kingdom (UK) and United States of America (USA) tomorrow to obtain more documents. "Tomorrow I am going to the UK and the US for two weeks to make a detailed enquiry. I hope to get some more materials."
He claimed that it was due to his demand that the Central Board of Direct Taxes was looking at the tax evasion angle in this scam.
To a question on the agitation against actress Kushboo over her remark pertaining to pre-marital sex by women, he said he would not like to comment as she is an individual and not a public figure.
