Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who was admitted to Leelavati Hospital in suburban Bandra here following abdominal pain, has been diagnosed to be suffering from colitis, according to hospital sources.

The 63-year-old actor underwent various tests since yesterday (Nov 28, 2005) and he is said to be suffering from inflammation in the colon or the large intestine, the hospital spokesperson Dr Narendra Trivedi said.

"However, he is stable," Trivedi said, adding, "The family doctor Dr Jayant Barve will examine him tonight and then decide whether the treatment will be given in the hospital or at home."

Bachchan has been kept under observation and will be resting in the hospital, the sources said.

The actor was first admitted to Escorts hospital in Delhi yesterday from where he was flown in here last evening.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Bachchan's son Abhishek visited him at Leelavati Hospital this morning.
