TN: Central team begins to assess rain-ravaged areas

Chennai: A 10-member central flood assessment team, headed by union Joint Secretary D S Mishra, today (Nov 29, 2005) commenced its visit to the rain ravaged districts of Tamil Nadu.

The team, after visiting the affected areas today and tomorrow, would meet senior state government officials tomorrow evening and leave for New Delhi in the night.

Mishra told reporters at Chennai airport that the team would split to five groups and visit different affected districts. Tomorrow it would hold a meeting with state government officials.

It would submit its report within a week, he said. This is the second team to visit and assess the damages caused by rains. The earlier team had arrived here 10-days ago and submitted its report to the Centre.
