US to probe Dawood Ibrahim's links with drug mafia Tuesday, November 29 2005 18:43 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Assuring all help to catch Dawood Ibrahim, who is a specially designated 'global terrorist' in the United States, the CBI today (Nov 29, 2005) termed the US move to probe his links with the drug mafia as a follow-up of Interpol and the UN's fresh resolve to fight international gangs.
Talking to reporters after inaugurating the DNA laboratory at the CBI headquarters, CBI Director U S Misra said, "In the last Interpol General Assembly, it was decided that a fresh notice will be issued against international gangsters having links with terrorist organisation and Dawood was one such case."
The underworld don, who is believed to be shuttling between the Pakistan port-city of Karachi and a Gulf country, was named by the US as specially designated 'global terrorist' after which it decided to move the UN for freezing of his all assets.
Misra said all countries were concerned about the activities of international gangs and want to put an end to it. "The move by the US was a step in that direction."
He said nabbing an international gangster was a joint responsibility of all the nations and said the CBI was willing to cooperate with anyone on the issue.
The United Nations has already named Dawood in the wanted list of individuals having links with al-Qaeda and his name figures under UN resolution 1267 which mandates all states to freeze the assets, prevent their entry into or transit through their territories.
