Shiv Sena raking up emotional issues: Dharam Singh
Tuesday, November 29 2005 16:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh today (Nov 29, 2005) alleged that the Shiv Sena was creating problems in the state by raking up emotional issues.

"Sena was losing its base in Maharashtra, a fact which has been indicated by the recent by-elections," he said after inaugurating a two-day conference of senior police officers here.

Singh's remarks come in the backdrop of Shiva Sena's plans to launch an agitation in the state against dissolution of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi controlled Belgaum Corporation, which was dissolved by the State Government last week after it passed a resolution demanding merger of Belgaum and Marathi speaking areas with Maharashtra.

Complementing the police for their efforts in maintaining peace, communal harmony and law and order, Singh exhorted them to anticipate the things to happen and act quickly.

Reiterating that the state was governed by a coalition Government, formed under special circumstances, warranted by political compulsions, he asked police officials to bring a good name to the administration by their work.

He wanted the police department to repeat their performance displayed during peaceful conduct of Panchayat elections, during the coming Zilla and Taluk Panchayat polls scheduled for December 19 and 23.

"The local level elections are certainly a challenging tasks before you. I want to you perform well," he told the officers.

Singh assured that there will be no political interference in the functioning of the police department and assured to clear pending proposals of the department, including for augmenting the force strength and modernisation as early as possible.

He asked the officers to be vigilant over the naxal menace which has been spreading throughout the country.

DGP B S Siyal, in his welcome address, said despite the constraints for manpower, the department has been maintaining law and order very well in the state.

He requested the Government to consider granting incentives to Anti-Naxal Force, now engaged in countering naxal activities on the lines of the one extended to Special Task Force that ended the elusive run of forest brigand Veerappan.

The police were geared up to the meet the situation during the coming Mahamasthakabisheka at Sravanabelagola slated to be held during early next year and Datta Jayanti celebrations in Chikmagalur next month.

Crime situation remained under control in the state, Siyal said and pleaded with the Chief Minister to relax recruitment ban in police department.
