Motion on Volcker issue defeated in Rajya Sabha Tuesday, November 29 2005 21:06 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Opposition-sponsored motion on the Volcker issue was defeated in the Rajya Sabha today (Nov 29, 2005) by a voice vote with the Government asserting that if any offence was committed, law will take its own course and no one found guilty will be spared.
"We will pursue the investigation to the logical end," Finance Minister P Chidambaram said while replying to a marathon debate on the motion on Volcker findings on alleged pay-offs in Iraqi oil deals.
Chidambaram said if the Justice R S Pathak Inquiry Authority found any violation of law, a First Information Report will be filed and action would be taken against those found guilty.
There were repeated verbal duels between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which fielded Arun Jaitley and the Congress which had Chidambaram and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal as their main speakers.
