Decks cleared for Uma Bharti's suspension from BJP Tuesday, November 29 2005 20:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Uma Bharti, who remained defiant and trained guns on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top brass today (Nov 29, 2005) over the Madhya Pradesh leadership issue, is expected to be formally suspended by the party's Parliamentary Board which meets here tomorrow (Nov 30, 2005).
Fed up with her 'tantrums', the party's senior leaders have almost also made up their mind to put an end to the fiery Sanyasin's career in BJP and expel her to avoid the constant embarrassment being caused by her and to send a strong message to the party cadres ahead of the change of leadership at the Centre, highly placed party sources said.
However, as a formality, she has been issued a show cause notice to explain within 72 hours why she should not be expelled from the party while six of her close associates, including former Union Minister Prahlad Patel have already been suspended.
The party's second generation, which had closed ranks and had been asking for her scalp ever since they became the target of her verbal and written attacks, got a boost with the 'supreme leader' and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee terming her actions at the state legislature party meeting in Bhopal yesterday as the 'height of indiscipline.'
The presence of both Vajpayee and Advani at the swearing in ceremony of Shivraj Singh Chauhan as the Chief Minister has also left no one in doubt about the side in which the wind was blowing.
"Enough is enough. Last time, we committed a mistake by taking her back. She has been a constant embarrassment for the party ever since. The whole party's image as a disciplined organisation is being tarnished by her activities," said a senior leader.
