Angry Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers today (Nov 30, 2005)went on rampage setting ablaze three railway stations, a power sub-station and several houses in eastern Uttar Pradesh protesting against killing of BJP legislator Krishnanand Rai.
The party workers set ablaze Ghazipur City, Dhondadih and Jakhaniya Railway Stations on the Varanasi-Ballia section disrupting movement of trains and blocked the main highway, official sources said.
The activists burnt a power sub-station at Karimuddinpur in Ghazipur district and a fire brigade tender at Parsa near Mohammadabad, the assembly constituency of the
slain MLA, the sources said.
A curfew like situation prevailed in Ghazipur where police and state paramilitary force have been deployed in large numbers after BJP workers indulged in heavy stone
pelting, damaged several vehicles and set ablaze houses belonging to members of a particular community, the sources added.
Members of a particular community were also assaulted in Panchokhar, Duhiyan and Malsa villages on Ghazipur's border with Bihar, they added.
Violence was reported from Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mau and Ballia too where BJP activists took out processions.
Meanwhile, the toll in yesterday's (Nov 29,2005) incident went up to eight with the death of one of the injured persons in hospital.
