Bazz almost stationary, likely to cross coast tonight
Thursday, December 1 2005 10:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: Parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh continued to be under the threat of Cyclone "Bazz" as it remained "practically stationary", at about 400-kms east southeast of Chennai this morning, Weather Office said today (December 01, 2005).

It was likely to intensify and move in a west north-westerly direction and likely to cross between Chennai and Machilipatnam by tonight or tomorrow, it said.

Due to this rain or thundershowers were likely to occur in many places over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and South coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48-hours beginning at 8.30 AM this morning, it said.

During this period gale wind speed reaching between 80-90 kmph, was likely to occur, particularly in extreme north coastal Tamil Nadu comprising Kancheepuram, Chennai and Tiruvallur districts of the state. High to very high waves would occur in the sea and hence, fishermen had been advised not to venture into sea, he said.

Following the cyclonic threat, authorities, particularly in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts have been put on alert to take all precautionary measures.
