Amitabh stable; oral intake of food not recommended Friday, December 2 2005 17:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is stable and improving after he underwent a surgery for a intestinal problem, although he is still on intravenous fluids and will take some more days before he is allowed oral intake, sources at Leelavati Hospital said here today (Dec 2, 2005).
With almost 48 hours over to the operation performed on the superstar for perforated 'diverticulitis', the sources said the 63-year-old Amitabh was still under observation at Intensive Care Unit and a decision on moving him out of ICU will be taken shortly.
"His body parameters continue to remain normal, which also suggests that the healing process of the wound (caused by perforation) is also taking up smoothly," the sources said, adding that the megastar was interacting normally with family members and hospital staff.
According to sources, the megastar will not be allowed to have oral intake of food until doctors are sure that the wound has healed. Even if they were to allow in a day or two, only liquid food and fruit juices may be permitted, till the intestinal system returns to normal.
Till then, Amitabh has been kept on intravenous fluids, supplemented by antibiotics and vitamins, sources said.
Bollywood stars and well wishers continue to flock the Leelavati hospital, where the star is admitted in the ICU.
Amitabh's star son Abhishek is monitoring the persons to be allowed inside the hospital to meet the superstar, sources said.
Except for family members and close friends, no body is allowed to meet Amitabh at the ICU, without the clearance of the family members, hospital authorities said.
