Bhopal: Alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Govenrment in Madhya Pradesh had failed to provide 'roti' (bread) to the citizens, suspended party leader Uma Bharti today (Dec 2,2005) said she felt she has 'betrayed' the people, as the assembly polls were fought under her leadership.

"We had come to power with a promise of providing roti to the people of Madhya Pradesh, considered as one of the poorest states in the country. But the BJP has failed to provide it",Bharti told reporters during the fourth day of her Ayodhya march in neighbouring Raisen district.

"I might have been betrayed, but I find myself betraying the people as the polls were contested in my name", she said.

"I am asking people to pelt stones at me, not shower flowers," she added.

To a query, she said her march will become the 'Ram RotiYatra' only after it reaches Uttar Pradesh.

"In Madhya Pradesh, I am apologising to the people for failing to fulfil my promises, " she said.

Bharti, who had alleged that Ram temple issue was neglected by BJP, said that after reaching Ayodhya, she would announce her future course of action, in case party takes action against her.

Stating that she would reply by tomorrow to BJP's show-cause notice on her conduct during leadership change process in Madhya Pradesh, the fiery sanyasin tried to justify her stand by saying that she had to publicly react to allegations made against her by senior BJP leaders, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, before media.

"Parents do not scold a child in the streets. They should have called me separately and scolded me, if required," she added.
