Karat asks PM to spell out stand on Iran issue
Friday, December 2 2005 14:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Palakkad: Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) general secretary Prakash Karat today (Dec 2, 2005) asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to spell out clearly the stand on Iran nuclear issue keeping in tune with India's time-honored independent and anti-imperialist foreign policy.

The Left parties wanted the Prime Minister to come out with India's stand clearly on the issue, without pursuing a pro-American approach, Karat told reporters at his native village Elappully near here.

Referring to the abduction and murder of BRO driver Maniappan by the Taliban in Afghanistan, Karat said the Center should take effective measures to ensure security of Indians working abroad.

On Kerala issues, he said the CPI-M politburo would discuss and take a decision before the assembly polls on the Left Democratic Front (LDF) ties with the Democratic Indira Congress (DIC-K) led by K Karunakaran.

However, the topic was not included in the agenda for the Politburo meet, scheduled later this month.

The study congress planned by the AKG Research and Study Centre this month would come out with a development plan for Kerala. The policy document emerging out of the venture need not necessarily toe the Bengal model being implemented by the Left government in that state, he added.
