'Volcker report should not be treated as final' Saturday, December 3 2005 18:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Maintaining that the Volcker report should not be treated as 'final and conclusive', the Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) today (Dec 3, 2005) said it was surprising that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not demanding a probe into the non-contractual beneficiary in the oil contract as listed in the report.
"It is surprising that BJP is not demanding an inquiry into the biggest non-contractual beneficiary in the oil contract as listed in the Volcker report. Is it because the (then) BJP-led government had something to do with this arrangement," the CPI(M) Polit Bureau asked.
In a statement, the party also demanded that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government should ensure that all relevant material was made available to the Justice R S Pathak enquiry panel, including the recent statement of Indian envoy to Croatia Aniel Matherani.
It said the inquiry was necessary to establish whether there was any wrongdoing and by whom, "Action should be taken on that basis. All the relevant information and material should be investigated including the purported remarks by Aniel Matherani".
