BJP MP seeks PM's advice on Belgaum border row Sunday, December 4 2005 14:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mangalore:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency D V Sadanand Gouda today (Dec 04, 2005) urged the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene to solve the border row between Karnataka and Maharashtra.
There was an urgent need for the prime minister to intervene as tension has built up in parts of both states after Karnataka dissolved the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi controlled Belgaum City Corporation for passing a resolution demanding merger of Marathi speaking areas including Belgaum with Maharashtra, he told reporters here.
He demanded that attacks on Kannadigas living in Maharashtra should be checked.
Gouda said his party would pressurize the Centre to implement the recommendations of Mahajan Commission to resolve the boundary dispute between the two states.
State unit BJP spokesman S Suresh Kumar charged that development has come to a grinding halt under the coalition government.
