Ayodhya:
A countrywide alert is on for the 14th anniversary of Babri masjid demolition today (Dec 6,2005), which the Sangh parivar and minority community plan to observe as 'Shaurya' (glory) and 'Kala' (black) day separately.
"No new programme or tradition will be allowed in Ayodhya today" and directives have been issued to all district authorities in Uttar Pradesh to maintain communal harmony, a UP Home Department spokesman said yesterday (Dec 5,2005).
The Ayodhya-Faizabad district administration had been told to keep a round-the-clock vigil on the programmes planned for today and the additional security forces deployed there carried out a 'demonstration of security preparedness' at the acquired land yesterday.
All sensitive points in the town like temples where preparations were on for a 'Ram vivah' (Lord Ram's marriage) ritual were being kept under a special watch.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) plans a 'Shaurya divas' at Karsewakpuram while Muslims would observe 'Yaume gham' in Tehri Bazar area and offer prayers for reconstruction of the Babri mosque.
In view of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President L K Advani's scheduled visit to Varanasi and Ghazipur today, Additional Director-General of Police (law and order) A Palnevel was camping there to monitor security arrangments, the spokesman said.
Advani was expected to take part in the sit-in against the killing of party MLA Krishahand Rai and visit neighbouring Ghazipur to meet the family of the slain legislator.
Special security and crowd control measures were in place at Sabarimala Ayyappa temple in Kerala and a vigil was being kept at airports, railway stations and bus stations.
