MHRC turns down Maha Govt's petition on Abu torture

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission today (Dec 6, 2005) turned down the State Government's plea to dismiss a petition alleging police torture on extradited gangster Abu Salem.

Hearing the petition filed by Salem's brother Abu Lais alleging police torture of gangster, the MHSRC said it was inclined to dismiss the state's contention merely on the ground that the applicant was not present during the hearing.
