'Advani's resignation not on agenda of BJP convention' Wednesday, December 7 2005 18:33 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
L K Advani's resignation as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President was not on the agenda of the three-day national convention of the party being held here this month-end, party General Secretary Pramod Mahajan said here today (Dec 7, 2005).
"This convention is a celebration of the 25 years of BJP.
There will not be anybody's resignation or coronation at the convention," Mahajan told reporters.
He was responding to queries regarding Advani's recent statement at Chennai that he would step down as party chief after the convention.
"Since its birth on April six, 1980 at Delhi, the party has come a long way in these 25 years", Mahajan said. "The first national convention of the party was also held at Mumbai and it is appropriate that the silver jubilee convention is also being held here," he added.
Stating that the Uma Bharti issue was finished as far as BJP is concerned, Mahajan did not elaborate on it.
He, however, said, "Lack of discipline is a matter of concern for us."
Asked if the convention would discuss the issue of 'collective leadership', Mahajan said, "Wait till you see our political resolutions. I do not want to comment on it."
Mahajan said no leader of BJP's oldest alliance partner, Shiv Sena was not being invited for the convention. When pointed out that the Sena chief Bal Thackeray was invited for the party's convention in the city in 1995, Mahajan said, "This time, it is different."
