Chennai: Deep depression over South West of Bay Wednesday, December 7 2005 14:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Even as rain battered areas in Tamil Nadu, particularly the metropolis and neighboring districts of Kancheepuram and Tirvallur limping back to normalcy, the threat of another spell of rain looms large due to a deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal.
The weather office today said that yesterday's (Dec 6,2005) depression had intensified into a deep depression and presently lay 800 km East-Southeast of Chennai.
The system is likely to intensify further and move in a westerly direction. Under its influence, rainfall was likely over North coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry from tomorrow (Dec 8, 2005) night, it said.
Meanwhile, water has practically receded in Tiruvallur, Chennai and Kancheepuram districts. in the worst affected Kotturpuram area in Chennai, there is very little water logging.
In the industrial area of suburban Ambattur and city's Guindy area, where production has been affected due to four spells of rain, including on Dec 2, water is being pumped out.
Industry sources said they might seek an interim relief from the Tamil Nadu Government to overcome their losses.
Civic authorities have commenced disinfecting areas to prevent outbreak of diseases.
