President approves all 17 names of Madras HC judges
Wednesday, December 7 2005 16:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Dec 7, 2005) approved all the 17 names recommended by the collegium of Supreme Court for the judges of Madras High Court.

Sources said notification in this regard is likely to be followed tomorrow.

The approval on the appointment of judges comes three months after the collegium had cleared the names but the delay has occurred as the Government did not send the names to the President.

Various Bar Associations from Chennai had filed petitions in the Supreme Court seeking directions for the Government on the appointment of judges.

Madras High Court was functioning with half its sanctioned strength of 49 judges.

With the approval of 17 names, the strength of the High Court will be 38.
