Delhi: Magisterial inquiry ordered into factory fire

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today (Dec 07, 2005) ordered an inquiry by Deputy Magistrate into the fire incident in an East Delhi area in which 12 people were burnt to death and four others injured.

Dikshit, who visited the site of the incident, also announced Rs one lakh each as ex-gratia relief to the kin of those killed and Rs 5,000 to those injured in the mishap.

The inquiry will ascertain why and how the factory was operating in a residential area, she told reporters. She said the fire safety measures at the factory were not in place and that Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will take strict action.
