12 killed as blast rips through Pak tribal market

Wana (Pakistan): Twelve people were killed and more than 40 injured today (Dec 08, 2005) when a powerful blast ripped through a market in Pakistan's restive tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, local officials told sources.

The cause of the explosion in the town of Jandola in the troubled South Waziristan region was not immediately clear, but some officials said it had happened in a weapons shop.

"Twelve people were killed and more than 40 people were hurt," one official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Other local administration officials confirmed the figure.
