Chennai: Cyclonic storm moves to the Southeast

Chennai: The cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal lay 650 km east southeast of Chennai today (Dec 8,2005) morning, consequent to which rains and squally weather was likely from tomorrow (Dec 9,2005), the weather office said.

The storm was now moving in a westerly direction, they told sources.

Yesterday (Dec 7,2005) the cyclonic storm was 800 km East-Southeast of Chennai, but overnight it covered 250 km and now lay east southeast of Chennai, they said.

Due to this, the rains, which were expected to commence over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry from tonight, was now likely over these areas from tomorrow, they said.
