DMK Chief Karunanidhi wishes Sonia on her birthday

Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi wished Congress President Sonia Gandhi on her turning 60 today (Dec 09, 2005).

In a greetings message, Karunanidhi said Sonia represented a "grand legacy of dedication to the cause of the nation, sincerity of purpose, simplicity of living and sacrifice".

He said her 'unflinching' faith in secularism, social justice and democracy 'will go a long way in taking our country forward'.

'Your sterling services as chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance and National Advisory Council are historic. The country is in need of your services for a long time to come', he said.

Meanwhile, in Pondicherry, a meeting was organised to celebrate Sonia's birthday, a report from there said.

Speaking on the occasion PCC President P Shanmugham, said the Right of Information Act, 2005, had been enacted by the central government to enable people to know about various schemes introduced for the poor and downtrodden.

He said Sonia had been guiding the central government without aspiring for any office or power.

V Narayanaswamy, MP, and former Chief Minister V Vaithilangam also spoke. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion, the report added.
