Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala today (Dec 9,2005) asked the people of the state to take a pledge to promote amity, communal harmony and universal brotherhood.
Congratulating the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on its effective function in protecting human rights and safeguarding human dignity, in a message on the eve of
International Human Rights Day, the Governor said it was a matter of great satisfaction for people of the state to represent their grievances against rights violations.
"The services rendered by the SHRC in spreading human rights literacy, among various sections of the society is laudable", he said.
The increase in number of complaints from 2162 in 1997 to 8200 in 2005 showed the 'faith, the people have in SHRC', he said and expressed his appreciation for SHRC designing human rights greeting cards with appropriate slogans to propagate the message of human rights.
