Friday, December 9 2005 14:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today (December 9, 2005) called for re-evaluation of the gadgetry of the security organizations and asked them to get updated on the latest technologies in view of the threat posed by increased terrorists activities.

Noting that there has been a surge in terrorist violence in the past one decade, Patil said, "It is now imperative for security organizations to get updated on the latest technologies and acquire the latest gadgets to deal with the scourge of terrorism."

The Home Minister, who was inaugurating the International Security, Safety and Fire Exhibition 2005 here, said the issue of security had gained importance since the attacks on the twin towers of WTC and Pentagon, the Indian Parliament and more recently the pre-Diwali blasts in Delhi.

"Acts of terrorism, abductions, hijackings and killings are on the rise, threatening the principles of democracy and freedom," Patil said, adding there was a plethora of terrorist organizations and networks such as the Taliban, al-Qaeda and Jaish-e-Mohammad.
