BJP state CMs to discuss VAT, Naxalism, poverty Sunday, December 11 2005 15:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chief Ministers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states are meeting here tomorrow (Dec 12, 2005) to discuss among other Value Added Tax, Naxalism and illegal migrant issues.
"The day-long meeting, to be chaired by party President L K Advani, will also consider follow-up action on the Supreme Court judgement upholding complete ban on cow slaughter," BJP vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here today (Dec 11, 2005).
Besides the Chief Ministers, the meeting would be attended by two senior ministers from all BJP-ruled states and the Bihar Deputy Chief Minister.
BJP ministers in Orissa and Nagaland, where the party is a constituent of the ruling coalition, would also attend the conclave.
On the naxal problem, Naidu said steps taken by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to control the menace were not adequate.
"The UPA Government has not been able to comprehend the magnitude of the problem and failed to take follow up action on initiatives taken by Advani when he was the Home Minister," he said.
Strengthening programmes for poverty alleviation and Ayodhya were also on the agenda of the meeting to be addressed among others by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Naidu said.
