Pakistan arrests 40 Indians for illegal fishing

Karachi: Pakistani authorities have arrested 40 Indian fishermen for allegedly poaching in Pakistani waters, officials said today (Dec 11, 2005).

"We arrested 40 fishermen and seized their seven boats on Saturday (Dec 10, 2005) for violating our maritime zone," said a spokesman for the Maritime Security Agency, Lieutenant Commander Ateequr Rehman.

The fishermen have been handed over to police.

The latest arrests have brought the number of Indian fishermen detained in Pakistan to 198, Rehman said.
