SC forms committee to look into student elections Monday, December 12 2005 12:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The Supreme Court today (Dec 12, 2005) constituted a six-member committee headed by former Chief Election Commissioner K C Lyngdoh to give suggestions relating to the students elections in Universities and their affiliated colleges which in recent times have been influenced on large scale by money and muscle power.
The members of the committee include Prof Zoya Hassan, Prof Pratap Bhanu Mehta, Secretary-General of Association of India Universities, Dayanand Dungarkar, and two other members nominated by the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
The court said that out of the two members nominated by the HRD Ministry, one should be eminent financial analyst, preferably a reputed chartered accountant.
A Bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia asked the committee to place the report before it within four months from the date of notification of the committee.
