MPs cash-on-camera scam serious matter: Somnath
Monday, December 12 2005 12:44 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: In the wake of a news channel airing tapes of MPs taking money purportedly for raising questions in Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today (Dec 12, 2005) said it was a 'serious matter' and he would decide on what action needed to be taken after consulting the leaders.

"I am extremely scared if the allegations are correct. It is a serious matter and I am looking into it with all the seriousness," he told sources, which showed MPs belonging to various parties taking money.

Asked what action he would take on the issue, the Speaker said, "Let me consult with the leaders."

"I have already spoken to the leader of the opposition. He has also agreed with me that this is a very serious issue. I have also spoken to the leader of the House," he added.
