Advani warns party MPs of stern action if guilty Tuesday, December 13 2005 11:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Terming as 'sad and shameful' the involvement of six party MPs in the cash-for-questions scam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President L K Advani today (Dec 13, 2005) asked them to be scrupulous and cautious in their dealings and warned the party's lawmakers of stern action if found guilty.
Addressing the weekly Parliamentary Party meeting here, he said, "The revelations in yesterday's television expose were very sad and shameful and a blot not only on the party but on the entire Parliament and the entire country."
Briefing reporters about the 45-minute long meeting, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said Advani asked the MPs to be careful and scrupulous in their dealings and warned them of stern action if they were found involved in any such activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Malhotra, who is also Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha, said the MPs should be 'very careful' in their dealings, particularly with regard to their free flight coupons, giving their garage on rent and MPLAD (Local Area Development Fund).
"A stern view would be taken by the party even if it was not done deliberately," he cautioned.
Taking a high moral ground, the party had yesterday suspended six of its MPs from the Parliamentary Party and ordered an internal inquiry into the scam. Advani said wherever necessary, the matter would be referred to the Privileges Committee.
