Stamp scam: Chargesheet filed against DIG, 10 others

Chennai: The CBI today (Dec 13, 2005) filed the chargesheets in the 'Telgi fake stamp paper scam' in a CBI court against 11 persons, including a suspended DIG of Tamil Nadu Police A P Mohammad Ali, in which Telgi and an associate have been named as the prime accused.

Spotlight: Mother of All Scams!

The 3000 page chargesheet, filed in the court of CBI Judge Dakshinamurthy, lists 190 prosecution witnesses and 340 pieces of documentary evidence.

Besides Mohammad Ali, chargesheets were filed against Telgi, his associate Nizamuddin, Abdul Wahid, Safraz Nawaz, Balaji, Jacob Chako, Peter, a then assistant commissioner of the city police S Sankar, a LIC administrative officer R Sadhu and Nazeem.

They have been charged under IPC sections for criminal conspiracy (120-B), forgery for the purpose of cheating (468), and possession of Indian Coin by a person who knew it to be altered (253) and counterfeiting government stamps (255). The police officer has been also charged under section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
