Fake stamp paper scam: JC of 61 accused extended

Pune: A special court today (Dec 13, 2005) extended the judicial custody of 61 of the 67 accused, including prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case till January 11, 2006 and fixed day-to-day hearing from that day.

Barring Shahida Telgi, who surrendered on November 15, and former MLA Anil Gote who are under treatment in a private hospital in the city, 57 other accused who are in judicial custody, including Abdul Karim Telgi and Shridhar Vagal, former special IGP, were produced before the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court through video conferencing.

Two accused have been taken to Delhi and Jaipur on transfer warrants in connection with hearing of stamp cases being heard the courts there.

Police sub-inspector Pratap Kakade, an accused in the case, had died in February 2005 under mysterious circumstances in Yerawada Central Jail while a proclamation has been issued on September six last against Haseeb Ahmed Mushtaq Ahmed Shaikh who was absconding.

Former Mumbai police commissioner R S Sharma and former DCP Mumbai crime branch Pradeep Sawant and two others who have been given bail in the case wer present during the hearing.

Special Judge B M Sardeshpande asked the defence and prosecution counsels to ensure time on January 11, 2006 when charges would be framed against the accused.
