DMK files petition in High Court seeking CBI probe Wednesday, December 14 2005 18:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
The DMK today (Dec 14, 2005) filed a petition in the Madras High Court for a direction to the CBI to probe the sale of 103 acres of state-owned land on the city outskirts to a Singapore-based company allegedly at a throwaway price, resulting in a loss of Rs.190.55 crore to the state.
Charging the ruling AIADMK Government with violating established procedures and granting liberal concessions to Singapore Realty Private Ltd, the DMK Treasurer, Arcot N Veerasamy, also sought an interim injunction to restrain the state government from handing over possession of the land for the purpose of constructing residential flats to the buyer and providing any facilities till disposal of the petition.
The petitioner contended that he had reliably learnt that the state government had sold 103 acres of land belonging to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) for Rs.15 lakh per acre against the prevailing market rate of Rs.two crore per acre.
"The sale is a flagrant violation of all relevant rules and regulations pertaining to land acquired by the government for specific purposes," the petitioner said.
