Three killed, over six injured in Manipur firing Thursday, December 15 2005 14:35 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Three civilians were killed and over six others injured when security personnel resorted to firing to disperse a mob, which obstructed construction of Khuga dam in interior Churachandpur district of Manipur late, last night, official sources said today (Dec 15, 2005).
Sources said inhabitants of Khuga dam and surrounding areas who were demanding compensation, destroyed equipment and machines at Khuga dam complex and attempted to set afire the offices at Khuga, about 70 kms south of here, last night.
As the mob turned violent, Border Security Force personnel deployed to protect the dam, opened fire killing three civilians and injuring over six persons, first official reports said this morning.
Reports said the mob also set fire to a police vehicle-carrying personnel from Churachandpur police station. More police forces from here have left for the spot and a detailed report was still awaited.
